CoQ10

Wednesday, December 24th, 2014

The December 2014 issue of the journal Atherosclerosis revealed an association in older men and women between higher levels of the lipid-soluble antioxidant coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) and a lower risk of developing dementia.

Kazumasa Yamagishi of Japan’s University of Tsukuba and colleagues conducted a case-control study of individuals aged 40 to 69 years upon enrollment in the Circulatory Risk in Communities Study between 1984 and 1994. Serum CoQ10 levels were measured in 65 men and women who developed disabling dementia between 1999 and 2004, and in 130 age- and gender-matched control subjects.

An association was observed between higher CoQ10 levels and a decline in the risk of developing dementia. Subjects whose CoQ10 levels were among the highest 25% of participants had a risk of dementia that was 77% less than those whose levels were among the lowest 25%. When the ratio of CoQ10 to total cholesterol was examined, a similar relationship was observed.

The Dangers of Dairy

Thursday, December 18th, 2014

by Dr. Amy Myers
All of those “Got Milk?” ads from the last decade or so would have us believe that dairy is a cornerstone of the healthy diet, providing essential nutrients, fortifying our bones, and knocking out osteoporosis left and right. But, is this true? Is consuming dairy necessary or even healthy for most people?

The truth is, dairy can lead to countless health issues and, for many, can cause more harm than good, here’s why.

It’s Highly Inflammatory
Dairy causes inflammation in a large percent of the population resulting in digestive issues such as bloating, gas, constipation, and diarrhea, as well as other symptoms including acne, and a stronger presentation of autistic behaviors. I believe dairy is one of the most inflammatory foods in our modern diet, second only to gluten.

Your Gut – Your Most Vital Asset

Wednesday, December 17th, 2014

Your gut is the foundation of your health. If your gut is healthy, that’s a pretty good indication that you’re healthy overall. It interacts with the outside world every day–each time you eat, your gut is responsible for taking in nutrients and keeping out foreign substances. It’s possible for your gut to become too permeable, or “leaky.” When this happens, things like bacteria, parasites, and undigested food enter your bloodstream and challenge your immune system, causing inflammation.

Since I’ve had treatments with acuscope and myopulse, (they use millivolts to get rid of inflammation and open up your body’s cells to receive nutrients and release toxins), my life is completely different. People don’t believe the energy and stamina I have today compared to this past August.

Two months of treatments and my body is getting whole again. And I’ve learned not to eat processed foods, and I stay away from factory farmed animals of all kinds.

I can go a year or more buying organic food in comparison to what I spent on getting well.

Boswellia Tempers Cancer Promotion

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

Inflammation plays a central role in promoting cancers of virtually all kinds. My body was so full of inflammation that I had two different kinds of cancers. Both were surgically removed.
Inhibiting inflammation is a key part of cancer prevention. This is where Boswellia plays a key part, especially the boswellia acids as AKBA.

Boswellia comes from the plant resin, frankincense, from a tree called Boswellia serrata. Boswellia extracts have been used for thousands of years to treat a wide range of conditions caused by inflammation. The specific compound that scientists have identified as having potent pain reducing benefits is AKBA (3-O-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid).

The Boswellia acids such as AKBA can be very effective against cancers but shutting down the master inflammation regulatory complex NF-KappaB in tumor cells. Boswellia can bring about early cell death and regression of tumors.

As a side-note. The Biblical story of the “Wise Men” in the birth of Jesus has them bringing gold, frankincense and myrrh. Truly gifts for a king.

Cardiac Arrest vs. Heart Attack

Monday, December 15th, 2014

It seems like most news reporters don’t know the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. I had both. First I was having a heart attack in my home. I felt a little pain but wasn’t too uncomfortable. In fact I was joking with the paramedics and then the ambulance personnel. They put me in the ambulance while I continued to joke with the staff – until I had a cardiac arrest.

A heart attack happens when blood flow to the heart is blocked. A blocked artery prevents oxygen-rich food from reaching a section of the heart. I had two block arteries.

A cardiac arrest occurs when the heart malfunctions and stops beating. Cardiac arrest is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). I had the cardiac arrest in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Death occurs within minutes if the victim does not receive treatment.

CPR and the use of an AED (Automated External Defbrillator) can frequently save lives if administered quickly.

The Value of Raw Milk

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

In confined animal feeding operations (CAFO’s), large groups of animals are kept in a small space, oftentimes without natural light or access to the outdoors. The conditions are filthy, with animals standing in each other’s waste. Needless to say, harmful bacteria naturally thrives in these conditions. To combat disease, the animals are fed antibiotics. They may also receive hormones, which increase milk production, and they’re fed a diet of grains and soy (most of which is now the genetically engineered variety) rather than grass, which alters their gut flora and makes them even more prone to disease.

As a result, drinking CAFO milk raw would be extremely dangerous. It must be pasteurized for safety. Unfortunately, most of the actual nutrition found in milk is destroyed during pasteurization.

The process also alters the milk molecule and as a result, pasteurized milk tops the list of allergenic foods.

Raw organic grass-fed milk, on the other hand, has many well-recognized health benefits and medicinal qualities. According to McAfee, increasing numbers of doctors are now starting to prescribe raw organic dairy for children with asthma, recurrent ear infections or chronic inflammation, rather than just telling them to quit dairy altogether, because they recognize it’s not the dairy itself—the problem is pasteurized dairy.

Raw grass-fed milk can even be tolerated by most that are lactose intolerant.

Danger GMO’s

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

When it comes to our health most people don’t think about gut health. From what I’ve been reading lately gut health is the key to all of our health. Now we know that conventionally farmed food with all the herbicides and pesticides that go into our food are killing the good bacteria in our gut. This leaves only the deadly bacteria to go right on killing us. The latest study shows that Monsanto’s Roundup is one of the biggest culprits destroying our health. Genetically modified food is poison to our system and our government isn’t doing anything about it – yet.

This is all the more reason to eat organically grown food. And if you cannot find organic buy from your local health food stores where they are working to keep us healthy.

The journal Current Microbiology recently published a study that caught Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide’s active ingredient, glyphosate, suppressing beneficial bacteria in poultry specimens. Given that gut health is directly linked to chronic illnesses and overall health, this isn’t exactly welcome news for people who can’t always afford or who lack access to organic, locally grown food. – See more at: http://naturalsociety.com/roundup-ruining-gut-health-contributing-growth-deadly-bacteria/#sthash.NjOgRhTc.dpuf

Help in Reversing Heart Failure

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014

There are energy producing supplements that help reverse heart failure. These supplements will help support the left ventricular filling. This improvement of the diastolic function helps supports the systolic function which overall improves the ejection fraction. (Ejection fraction is the amount of blood ejected with each heartbeat. Fifty-five to 75 is normal.)
CoQ-10 of 150-300 mg twice a day, magnesium 200-300 mg twice a day, D-Ribose 5 g three times a day, and L-Carnitine 1 g twice a day on an empty stomach is the recommendation of Dr. Stephen Sinatra, a leading cardiologist in treating cardiovascular disease.

8 Surprising Ways to Burn 50 Calories

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

Bill Hogan gives us 8 ways to burn 50 calories. Every “burnt” calorie helps you stay healthier.
1) Work out your funny bone.
Laugh out loud for 10-15 minutes. It can boost your metabolism by 20 percent.
2) Pick up Litter.
Walking is good exercise and bending stretching and lifting makes it even better. An added benefit is a cleaner and greener environment.
3) Rub someone the right way.
An 8 – 9 minute massage, giving is better than receiving, burns those calories.
4) Hoop it up.
Remember the old Hula-Hoop? It gives you a cardiovascular workout which builds stamina and improves agility.
5) Conduct an imaginary orchestra
Just 14 minutes of gesturing like a conductor boosts your pulse rate and over time will strengthen your heart.
6) Be a clean freak.
Ten minutes of vacuuming gives your upper body muscles a gentle workout and on stairs helps tone your lower body.
7) Type e-mail.
This may seem sedentary but remember that 19-20 minutes of typing burns up to twice as many calories as a couch potato.
8) Chew gum.
Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have found that chewing gum for 4 1/2 hours work out your jaw muscles and raises your metabolic rate by 20 percent.

The last one I’ll leave to the long endurance runner.
