Diet and Exercise Can Save the U.S. a Trillion Dollars

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Yes, it would be easy to save a Trillion Dollars by preventing disease rather than treating it. Lifestyle diseases like diabetes, heart disease, some cancers and others kill more people than communicable diseases.

These diseases are preventable and you prevent them the same way you caused them. LIFESTYLE. A nutritious diet alone would save us hundreds of billions of dollars. Cut out the highly processed foods. Cut out high fructose ┬ácorn syrup. Cut out foods sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and animals injected with all kinds of medicines and growth hormones. You’ve already saved hundreds of billions of dollars.

The American Heart Association stated that costs in the U.S. from cardiovascular disease – the leading cause of death in the U.S. – will triple by 2030 by more than $800 billion annually. Toss in about $276 billion of what they call “real indirect costs,” like productivity and you have over a trillion.

Then you have Type 2 diabetes which is projected to cost $500 billion a year by 2020, when half of all Americans will have diabetes or pre-diabetes.

And this is just for starters. While you thought a Trillion dollars was a lot of money.

But who wants to stop this? Pharmacologies, the food industry with it’s highly processed food, the meat industry with it’s gigantic animal farms, and everyone else who profits from our sickness and diseases. The drug industry is big money. The international giants of industry are not working for you but rather betting that you will not change your ways while they become rich as you get sick and die.

The choice is up to you. For me: I choose life.
