CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

We have written a lot about food and supplements that are good for you and some that are not.

But suppose that even though you have begun a good health regimen you still have a cardiac arrest. Here are some reasons to learn CPR.

-Cardiovascular disease affects an estimated 81 million American adults (more than 1 in 3 people)

-Cardiovascular disease is the #1 killer in America

-80% of cardiac arrests occur at home and are witnessed by a family member

-Less than 7% of sudden cardiac arrest victims survive because bystanders do not know CPR.

– CPR can double or triple the chance of survival; seconds really do count

-CPR circulates an effective and vital amount of oxygen-rich blood to the heart and the brain, which can keep a victim alive

-Research has shown that any amount of CPR can improve the odds of survival for a victim of cardiac arrest

-Last year 36 states had a law or curriculum standard encouraging CPR training in schools (with various models  for providing and paying for the training and equipment)

-“Training of all secondary education students will add a million trained rescuers to the population every few years.” Mary Fran Hazinski, R.N, co-author of the American Heart Association Science Advisory – this greatly increases the chance for survival in all sectors of society (home, school, recreational activities, etc.)

I enjoy reading some of the responses I get from readers. Almost all of them want to redirect my readers to another website – sorry, no can do.

I write off the top of my head. I try to get the reader to think! Since very few people think their own thoughts but just follow the crowd, I try to get readers to think for themselves and look up the rest of the information so that I don’t have to write an e-book every time.

If you’re one who doesn’t fill up my spam filters – bless you. If you really want to get in touch with me you can reach me through my website

Thanks! And today I’m another year older – but not necessarily wiser.

Processed Meat Can Kill You

Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

Every 50 grams of processed meat you eat on a daily basis (that’s about one hot dog) increases your risk of colorectal cancer by 21 percent.

But here’s where politics come in: Even though much of this research was paid for by the U.S. government, the government also subsidizes meat. It supports feed grains to fatten cows and pigs, buys up meats for the school lunch program and helps the meat industry in countless other ways. So I think that the last thing the government wants to do is to publicize the cancer risk of one of its favorite products. I believe that this is why there are no government billboards, radio ads or television spots to warn anyone about this easily preventable cause.

Studies Show 75 Percent of People Low on Vitamin D

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Poor diet, avoiding sunshine, age, geographic location all play a part in people having low levels of vitamin D. For example in northern climes there are only a few summer months when you can get enough vitamin D from the sun.

An easy solution is to take a vitamin D3 supplement.
