Hello World

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Just a short introduction. I’m Alfred (Al) Bertke. A number of years ago I thought I would start eating a more healthy lifestyle. Since I was well past 50 years of age and I had heard that a person who ate properly, didn’t have too much pollution in their air, water, food, etc., could live to be an average of 120 years. When I was 50 years old I had really let my health intentions slip. Then in my 60s I decided it was time to “get healthy”.

Then on May 4, 2007, at the age of 71 I had a cardiac arrest. Fortunately when I had pain for a while my wife Darlene called 911 and the ambulance came. Saying “Good bye” to all the neighbors who had come to see why the ambulance came to our house I climbed on the gurney which they had parked in our front yard. I continued my joking with the ambulance staff as we worked our way to the hospital. In fact, the ambulance driver even told my wife that when they got to the hospital and they didn’t find anything wrong they would simply release me and I could go home. It was then that my wife heard the large gasp and the driver got out and came to see me. He only used the paddles on me once. After getting back in he told my wife it was time to turn on the siren.

After getting out of the hospital with two new stents, I started walking regularly again. It worked because 3 1/2 months later we were climbing the hills and mountains of China.

Then in April of 2008 I was doing some consulting work for Nordic Naturals out in California when one of the managers gave me several books on health. Thus this blog!
