“Nuts to You”

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

A new review from Linda Loma University in California has more evidence suggesting that eating nuts may help lower cholesterol and contribute to heart health.

The research  which was published in the Archives of Internal Medicine examined 25 different studies that looked at nut consumption of 583 people. It found that eating an average of 67 grams of nuts a day reduced total cholesterol by an average of 5%, LDL by 7% and improved the ratio of LDL and HDL cholesterol.

Since nuts are high in calories the authors recommended only 3 ounces of nuts a day.
