Walnuts – A Super Food

Friday, October 7th, 2011

Walnut trees have been cultivated for 1,000s of years, coming from India and brought to the U.S. through England, hence the name English walnuts.

Walnuts are a good brain food because of the high concentration of omega-3. The brain consists of of more than 60% structural fat, and for the brain to function well, omega-3 fats need to be a proper part.

A study done at Purdue University has shown that children with low concentration of omega-3 fatty acids have a higher percentage of learning disorders, and showing behavioral problems. Many studies show the variety of problems with low omega-3 fatty acids.

And now if you talk about the health benefits of walnuts the FDA says it’s an illegal drug. Go figure!

What’s Wrong With This Picture

Here is the posting for Frito Lay with mostly fried foods:

Frito-Lay snacks start with real farm-grown ingredients.  You might be surprised at how much good stuff goes into your favorite snack. Good stuff like potatoes, which naturally contain vitamin C and essential minerals. Or corn, one of the world’s most popular grains, packed with Thiamin, vitamin B6, and Phosphorous – all necessary for healthy bones, teeth, nerves and muscles.

And it’s not just the obvious ingredients. Our all-natural sunflower, canola, corn and soybean oils are considered to be healthier oils by the FDA because they contain good polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, which help lower total and LDL “bad” cholesterol and maintain HDL “good” cholesterol levels. They also contain <20% of the bad saturated fat, which raises LDL, cholesterol and 0g fo trans fat. Even salt, when eaten in moderation as part of a balanced diet, provides sodium which is essential for the body.

The FDA allows this advertising for Pepsi but Diamond Company cannot say that raw walnuts are healthy after at least 35 scientific studies have shown the good results of walnuts. Processed foods have most of their nutrition taken out of them while raw foods have all their nutrition within them. What’s wrong with this picture?

FDA Ignores Science

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Last year the FDA determined that walnuts sold by Diamond Foods cannot be legally marketed because the walnuts “are not generally recognized as safe and effective” for the medical conditions that Diamond Foods put on their website.

There are at least 35 peer-reviewed published papers supporting a claim that ingesting walnuts improves vascular health and may reduce heart attack.

Members who have been reading the monthly reports of  Life Extension, or visited their website, know that walnuts support the inner arterial lining and guard against abnormal platelet aggregation.

Big Pharma Gone Amuck with the Help of the FDA

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Medicure Pharma, Inc. (“Medicure”) is requesting that the Commissioner of Food and Drugs stop food supplement companies from selling vitamin B6 under penalty of law. Actually vitamin B6 contains pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (P5P). and Medicure wants to prohibit anyone from selling P5P because they have a product called MC-1 which has P5P in it.

The pharmaceutical companies are trying to prohibit the food supplement companies from producing and selling supplements at a reasonable price by proclaiming everything it a drug and needs to be regulated by the FDA (which they currently control).

It took my own research to take myself off of Lipitor almost two years ago. I know they say it has been researched for 16 or 17 years and approved. How many other drugs have been approved only to be taken off the market as people keep dying for these drugs.

The pharmaceutical companies also want to call cherries and walnuts drugs.

On February 22, 2010, the FDA sent a warning letter to a distributor of packaged walnuts called Diamond Foods, Inc.

The FDA said that walnuts sold by Diamond Foods cannot be legally marketed because the walnuts “are not generally recognized as safe and effective” for the medical conditions referenced on Diamond Foods’ website.

According to the FDA, these walnuts are now classified as “drugs” and the “unauthorized health claims” cause them to become “misbranded,” thus subjecting them to government “seizure or injunction.”

The FDA sent similar letters to a wide range of food distributors including those who sell green tea and pomegranate juice.
