Sugar Linked to Dementia

According to German author and neurologist Dr. Agnes Floel, elevated blood sugar levels (from regularly eating high-carb, high-sugar foods) are fast becoming significant markers for cognitive decline and dementia.

In a recent study of 141 participants performed at Charite University Medicine in Berlin, researchers measured and compared sugar levels in 2 test groups—one had normal sugar levels and the others’ were elevated.

After testing which included an MRI scan and a word test, the researchers noted that the higher blood sugar participants consistently did worseduring the memory assessments than the normal blood sugar group!

The reason why this happens is because sugar clogs the nutrient channels in all of your cells.  Not only can this weaken your bones and muscles, but it can slow down communication between your nerve cells–which can lead to mood swings, memory problems and eventually dementia.

Soda and Diet Soda

Here’s what my friend Sherry Brescia writes about soda and diet soda:

Maybe it’s because people are going to lots of graduation parties and backyard barbecues, but I’ve gotten a ton of questions expressing concerns lately about soda, and especially diet soda.

So here’s what you need to know.

Onslaught of acid

Strictly in terms of health, ANY soda — diet or regular — is acid in a bottle (or can).  In fact, it’s SO acidic that it takes about 32 cups of water to neutralize the acid in just ONE can of soda in your body.

Having to neutralize that much acidity puts a massive strain on your kidneys, which are responsible for filtering acid out of your bloodstream and into your urine.

Your body also uses its own alkaline minerals (which includes calcium from your bones and teeth and magnesium from your muscles) to neutralize the acid. When these minerals are continually depleted by regular soda drinking, it can result in arthritis, osteoporosis, tooth decay and brittle, porous bones that fracture easily. (note: the incidents of these health issues are on the rise, especially in younger people)

Acid also hampers your stomach’s ability to break down your food, so since soda sales are on the rise, these drinks are major contributors to the explosion in recent years of digestive illnesses.

In addition to what processed foods and incompatible food combinations do, soda adds to bloating, diarrhea and/or constipation.

“Do the Dew” is taking on a whole new meaning, isn’t it?

Organic Produce

Organic produce has no synthetic additives that are linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, osteoporosis, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s.

It also has no residue from the more than 500 chemicals they use in pesticides. And crops are not made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

And don’t forget about high fructose corn syrup. Sugar is sugar from cane and corn – but the process for making high fructose corn sugar is the poison in the pill.

The Western Diet

Did you know that four of the top ten causes of death today are chronic diseases linked to diet: coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and cancer.

The “Western Diet” is the elephant in the room when it comes to health and diet.

The chronic diseases that now kill most of us can be traced directly to the industrialization of our food. The culprits are: highly processed foods, refined grains, chemicals on and in our plants and animals, and plants and animals in monocultures. Add to that cheap sugar products, pop, soda, candy, etc. And we narrow our choices to  a tiny handful of staple products, namely wheat, corn and soy. What’s missing is vegetables, fruits and whole grains (which by the way are recently making a comeback).

When a group of doctors and medical workers, early in the 20th century, were stationed overseas, they saw people of the world with their diverse diets become sick with the “Western Diet”. With that followed the Western diseases: obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, and cancer.

There is a solution!

Eat plant based foods, fruits and vegetables, range fed animals without all the pharmaceutical medicines pumped in them to make them fatter, faster and less healthy. Stay away from processed foods and sugars.

Today we have a choice to eat healthy. Use your freedom of choice to be healthy.

More Sugar for Children

Last November researchers at Yale’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity found that cereals marketed directly to children have 85% more sugar, 65% less fiber, and 60% more sodium than cereals marketed for adult consumption.
