Reiki is a Japanese form of healing that is becoming more popular here in the United States and throughout the world. Reiki incorporates elements of just about every other alternative healing practice including spiritual healing, auras, chakra balancing, meditation, and homeopathy.

Reiki involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient and enhances the body’s natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. It is a holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches all levels of body, mind and spirit.

As Americans become more concerned about body, mind and spirit it natural for many to look into Reiki for healing.

Staying Fit As You Age

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

The old saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, is totally wrong. (As are many other old sayings.) Studies have shown that as you age if you keep active using your brain the neural transmitters in your brain continue to grow and strengthen. Thirty some years ago I remember Dr. Shad Helmstetter saying in a seminar in the Twin Cities that it takes 21 days to change a habit and he talked about the neural pathways of the brain. That was the first time I had heard that but now it is quite common to hear such words. Some balancing exercises also strengthen the brain as it builds muscle.

Researchers have found that older adults who use the Internet may improve brain function as well. And besides if you search the Web you will be keeping up with the younger generation. In another study building muscle through resistance training helps to keep strong bones. You will see people jogging all the time but the real trick to staying young is to build muscle even into your 60s and 70s (When I hit 80 in a few years I’ll let you know how it is then.)

With all the support that we have today we lose our excuses to grow old. Oh yes, we’ll all die some day but wouldn’t it be great to know everyone until the very end. I’ve talked about omega-3 helping slow down loss of memory and the related diseases before. And unless you eat an awful lot of fish high in omega-3 get a good omega-3 supplement for your daily intake. I personally take Nordic Naturals each day.

When you need a “pick me up” call a friend. A good attitude helps you stay healthy.

Healing Touch

Many years ago I read about, let’s say an experiment, where orphaned babies were put into two groups. In the first group not only would the nurse feed and bathe the baby she would also hold and attend to it physically. The second group were fed and bathed but not touched otherwise. The first group of babies grew and flourished. A number of babies in the second group died and there was a distinct difference with those that survived. The study suggested that the human touch with the first group made all the difference.

Now I’m reading the book Quantum Touch by Richard Gordon. Quantum touch is a method of hands-on healing employing only a very light touch on yourself or others. The process employees breathing techniques, body awareness and hand position.

My understanding is that this is some form of energy healing. I am just beginning this study and have had some success. So I would appreciate comments from those of you who are more experienced in this field than I am.

To your health and wellness!
